Mahonia soft caress problems

An article today about mahonia soft caress has re-awakened my interest in this plant. After researching it I thought it was a little too vulnerable to disease and flowered too sparsely. Nowhere near hardy enough for my . I had been fighting the urge since last fall, when I stumbled upon it at the J. In full bloom and loaded with happily buzzing bees, it was quite a sight to behold.

At the time I had no idea it was the . In de winter laat ik de plant onbeschermd in de volle grond. Zonder problemen kwam deze plant de winters door en de groei zit er nu flink in. De looks van de plant vind ik schitterend en past erg goed bij een subtropische look.

These workhorses range from ground-hugging creeping mahonia ( Mahonia repens) to stately, 6- to 10-foot leatherleaf mahonia ( Mahonia bealei). Mahonias brighten shade with luminous, yellow early-spring spring blooms and bird- enticing, re blue or purple summer berries. Their rare problems stem from insect and .

Some taxonomists accept Mahonia as a generic entity while many others consider its species compound-leaved Berberis. Its taxonomic delineations are still not clear.

The ~2species traditionally listed under the genus exist in North America, Asia and Central and South America. They are shrubby, typically evergreen, .

Chinese mahonia puts out lemon-yellow blooms in the fall, which contrast nicely against the deep-green foliage, but they are not the main attraction. Compact enough to use in containers, yet large enough for foundation plantings or borders, these tough plants provide fabulous texture to the shade garden. Soft Caress has everything we love about Mahonia , without the pesky thorns!

Severely pruning such infested mahonia will not only re-invigorate the plant, but will also reduce insect problems and minimize corrective treatments necessary to eliminate such problems. Many times, a plant may .
